What makes immersive environments transformative: The precise design features and psychology that make impact effective.
Krister interviewing Krister
So Krister, what makes an immersive environment transformative?
The joy of building something cool together.
What makes it cool?
It’s cool when people feel that the project is purposeful. And it feels purposeful because it’s inspiring them to advance themselves. We’re not trying to solve a problem.
How does inspiration work?
It’s when we shift from a closed-minded state to being open to new opportunities, of personal growth.
What makes the environment inspiring then?
Being creative with arts & crafts. The Arts & Crafts provide freely available materials and technologies and playful activities, so familiar that anyone any age feels open to give them a go. Things like cardboard boxes, crayons and webcams and digital projectors.
How are the arts and crafts transformative?
When people are given the creative space to enjoy building something purposeful together, that joy spills over so much it ignites them using their hidden strengths. That’s when they realise, “Woagh, I just experienced a breakthrough. I didn’t know I could do that. But if I can do that here, I can do it in other parts of my life too.” Then they feel energised to go do it. And often what I observed happen is they report back to everyone to inspire them with their story of transformation and what worked for them.
Amazing! Yeah-OK, and so that’s why we need to co-create immersive environments with our audience. The significant portion of transformations happen whilst we’re working side by side building it. - The technology alone won’t do it.
True. By working this intimately together, you also get to know your customers in depth, and what really engages them and keeps them coming back for more. And that extends to both children and adults. That’s what makes sparking customer loyalty and Word of Mouth feel effortless.
Key to ensuring that a project’s resources and transformational impact keep expanding is to support people feel inspired to enjoy working together. That’s why these design factors are important ingredients to spark that joy. As are the skills or a co-design workshop facilitator and counsellor. They work by bringing order and inspiration to foster connection, establishing strong relationships and fostering personal growth.
